    FRENCH TOUR 2008

    OK folks

We have had further interest in the Tour with a confirmed booking. I have checked with the various hotels and Brittany Ferries. There is currently capacity on the outbound Ferry for 11 more bikes as of today's date on the outbound sailing. The return sailings have plenty of space. The only restrictions is that one of our main hotels has 6 remaining twin rooms so either 6 couples or up to the sailing capacity in solo riders prepared to share.

Dates are 14th June 2008 to the 24th or 28th June 2008 depending how many nights you want to do.

If you are interested let me know ASAP.

    February 2008 News Letter.

    February News Letter.

    Hi Folks.

We are now well in to February. Those that came on the Ride Out today (Sunday 10th Feb 2008), and what a good turnout it was, enjoyed what can only be described as beautiful spring weather, a good ride (even the green lanes LOL) followed by some decent food and drink. Let’s hope the majority of our Rides have similar weather.

I’ll be arranging the next one for Sunday 9th March 2008 which will be a Ride down the A272 to Cowfold for the annual London to Brighton Pioneer Run www.sunbeam-mcc.demon.co.uk/ . In addition the second round of the BSB is at Brands Hatch on Sunday 6th April 2008, Thruxton on 20th April and others that we could go to www.britishsuperbike.com/html/calenders .php  . Once the clocks go back we will try and do a Ride Out at least fortnightly along with some evening rides each month. I am still seeking suggestions as to runs, events etc, so don’t be shy, let me have your ideas.

Around the middle of March will be a get together for those going on the French Tour to meet, so if you are interested, then let me know and come along and meet everyone. I am still able to add you to the Tour if you are interested.

On that vein, is anyone interested in a long weekend to France, probably Normandy, later in the summer? If so, let me know and I will arrange something.

Several people have already expressed an interest in Track Days. If you don’t know, I do them anyway so if you are interested, again let me know and we will arrange one. Don’t worry about binning your bike. It doesn’t happen until you have done a couple and got the competitive bug. You will be amazed as to how different it is on track with phenomenal levels of grip and nothing coming the other way. It is something you should all have a go at, regardless what bike you have. You will see all sorts out on track.

If anyone wants to telephone me or pop round for a chat about Club activities, or even just to be social, email me for my contact details. Obviously I don’t want to post them on the web site as they would be in the public domain.

So let’s get those thinking caps on and give me ideas about what you want to do this year.

As most of you may be aware, Rob Willsher’s has now been taken over by Crescent Motorcycles and as a result, I have been asked to drop the reference to Rob Willsher’s, which is not unreasonable. After all, they do let us use the shop and have offered to put up prizes for fund raising events such as BSB tickets. So I need a new Logo for our paperwork. All clean suggestions will be gratefully received.

I would also like to improve on a web site, especially as I will have to change the current Live Space in any case. Does anyone have any experience with web sites or can anyone suggest a way of doing it that does not incur costs as we are not a fee paying club?

Finally, this is probably the last email you will receive from this email address as BT has finally conceded they cannot provide me with a decent Broadband service. I will be changing to Virgin during the coming week and will circulate the new email address as soon as I am connected. Keep an eye on your Spam filters.

Hope to see as many of you as possible on the next ride out.

Keep it rubber side down, even if I don’t heed my own advice.

    January News Letter

Happy New Year to all of you.

Christmas has come and gone. I hope everyone got out of Christmas exactly what it means for you, not just the prezzies, but every aspect of this time of year whatever your beliefs.

Summer is now on it's way and the evenings are drawing out (every the optimist me) so its time to give a little thought to what we want to do in 2008.

    Charity

Well we didn't exactly set the world on fire in 2007 with our fund raising efforts but even though the Treasure Hunt was a bit of a disaster, I still managed to blag, bully and shame some raffle money out of people and we raised just over £70.00 which I will be passing on to the Wessex Cancer Trust shortly.

I would like to think that we can do a lot better in 2008 and am after suggestions and or volunteers to help raise a few bob for a good cause.

My suggestion for a worthy cause this year would be the to raise funds in aid of The Hampshire & I.O.W Air Ambulance.

This is funded mainly by charity donations and although I hope none of us ever have to use this facility, I'm sure that some day one of us or some one we know unfortunately will. If we comitt to raising funds for them they will come and give us a presentation about their work free gratis (there is normally a charge). We could hold this one evening at the shop.

What are your thoughts on this. If you have any other suggestions let me know.

I have a limited supply of both clip type Carabina Key rings at £2 each or slightly larger locking D clamps for £3 each to raise funds for whatever charity we choose to support. I also have a signed copy of Chris Walkers Autobiography which I will hold some sort of Raffle for to raise funds. Any Suggestions as to other activities would be appreciated. I believe the air ambulance do have models of the helicopter which I will try and obtain to Raffle.

    French Tour.

As some of you may have heard (LOL) we have a Tour to the French Alps setting off on June 14th 2008 from Portsmouth Ferry Port for either 10 nights or 14 nights in the French Alps (Both trips are running together and the nights away do not include the overnight ferry crossings) Details are on the site. It is extremely cheap for what we are doing, just compare it to what the Tour Companies are offering. If you are interested I can still fit you in. Availability on the Ferry is likely to be the main difficulty as we get nearer the time. Most of the costs will not be due until you are actually on the Tour.

For more information, drop me an email.

    Activities

Here's the cruncher. What do we want to do this coming year?

British Superbikes at the circuits within a few hours ride goes without saying. Do we want to have an organised run to any of the established bike shows and events, weekends away (camping or B & B) Track Days, all day ride outs, other social activities etc? Let me have your ideas and suggestions.

It's up to you. I just need your input and hopefully a few voulunteers to help organise things. I would like to have a busy schedule in place for the summer months but obviously I can't do them all so don't be shy, step forward that man or woman.

We now have over 160 people on the mailing list. I have given ample oportunity for those who no longer wish to be included to be removed so I can only assume that most of the 160 want to be on the list with a view to taking part in The club's activities. So come on, make the effort. The more you put in the more you will get out of it. There are no membership fee's (perhaps there should be to encourage people to get their monies worth LOL) so it's just the cost of a tankful of fuel and the price of a coffee for most of the ride outs.

If anyone want's to discuss any aspect of the Club then email me for my phone number.

Ride safe in 2008 and I hope to see you involved in as much as possible with the club activities this coming year.

    November News Letter

    November News letter

OK Folks, winter is starting to take a grip. For some riding is over until next spring. For the more hardy of you, there will always be opportunities to get out and about on two wheels.

I intend to try and organise at least one ride out a month over the winter period. This will probably involve a Sunday morning ride to a pub for some lunch. So those of you with families, there’s no excuse, get them to meet us at the pub.

The weather will always be the deciding factor so I will announce a Ride Out by Email the weekend before and weather permitting, we’ll be out and about the following Sunday. A final decision will be made on the Saturday Night prior to the Ride Out and will be circulated by email.

When I announce a Ride Out I would appreciate an indication from you whether you are interested or not. This serves two purposes. The first gauges the response to let me know in advance if it is worth persevering on that Ride Out and the second so that I can ring the appropriate pub to confirm they can / will accommodate us.

If you know of any suitable pubs you would like to go to then let me know. I am also open to suggestions as to other activities with which we can keep ourselves amused over the coming months. It doesn’t have to involve the bike and if there is sufficient interest we’ll give it a go.

A date for your diaries is Boxing Day and the annual gathering at Wickham Square. If you haven’t been before it is a meeting of Classic &Vintage cars, bikes, steam engines, custom cars, military vehicles and motorcycles in general. The square gets packed and it is advisable to get there by 1000am to ensure easy parking. We will meet as The Club outside of the Kings Head in the Square at 1030. So if you are fuzzy headed from the day before, stuffed to the gunnels so that you can hardly move and want to get a bit of fresh air either with or without the family then come along.

I was intending to organise a Toy Run this year but have run out of time. If anyone would like to take this on at short notice let me know. We have over £70.00 raised for charity in the kitty so far which could be used if necessary.

In the same vein, if anyone would like to organise an Easter egg run or suggest an existing one locally that we could join then let me know.

Although Winter is about to set in, at least Spring is edging closer and looking to next year, I would like to get us involved in more Ride Outs and perhaps the odd weekend or two away. The French Alps Tour in June 2008 is up and running and 10 of us have already booked. If anyone else is interested let me know and I will check availability. The majority of the costs are not payable until you travel and it is excellent value for money.

If anyone has any suggestions for weekends away, again let me know.

There are over 150 of us on paper and the number grows each week. Can I remind you that this is your club. If you want to do something, speak up and we’ll do it. It would be nice to get a few of you more involved in the running of things so if you are interested let me know.

Likewise, if you have any sensible suggestions as to how The Club should or could be run, then speak up. I have a limited repertoire and it will become boring if you just leave it to me.

Watch those roads and keep it rubber side down. Safe riding,

    Ali

    French Tour 2008

    Tour to the French Alps
    June 14th - 27th 2008.

I am now collecting deposits for next years Tour. If you are worried about costs, Your initial outlay would be as follows:

At the time of booking and for the 14 night trip you need to find between £120 - £130 per person for deposits on the 2 main hotels.
Approx £25 deposit on your Ferry Booking.
Approx£11 deposit on one of the 3 transition hotels we shall be using.

You are provided with instructions as to how to book the Ferry.

Brittany Ferries will take the balance of the ferry fare from you on about the 29th April 2008.

You are provided with instructions as to book the transition hotels and with the exception of one, which takes an £11 non refundable deposit, no charge is made to your card until you actually stay.

All of the above are paid for and/or reserved by you against a Credit or Debit Card direct with the booking site. Other than the one hotel requiring an £11 deposit, there are no charges made for cancellations provided more than a days notice is given.

The deposit required to reserve the two main hotels is payable by cheque or cash to me and I will make confirm the group reservation. The balance is not payable until you actually stay. Hotel Le Marrinnier will refund in full with 30 days notice, then a sliding scale. Hotel le Dahu is not clear but provided sufficient notice is given, only the deposit is at risk. (Travel insurance will cover any unavoidable cancellations in any case.)

All of the hotels accept Mastercard or Visa.

If you have not had details of the Tour (I'd be surprised if you had overlooked them LOL), have lost them or require the up-to-date version of the Itiniary and costs and/or the Booking Instructions and Disclaimer/Booking form just Email me at The Club's Email address and I'll send them out to you.

I will just reiterate that this Tour has been arranged at cost, there is no profit being made, neither is the organisor (me) benifiting from any reduced rates (OK I got pick of the rooms at the two main Hotels but hey, I deserve that perk for doing all the work). Have a look at what the Motorcycle Tour companies will charge you and what you get compared to what this Tour costs and what it involves. They don't come anywhere near close. Our accomodation is as good if not better than anything they will offer and the areas we will be riding in are some of the best for roads and scenery in Europe. In addition, consideration has been given to those who do not want to Ride Out each day and the main hotels have facilities to appeal to all. The travelling does not amount to an endurance event and the emphasis is on having a great time on HOLIDAY!!!

Come and join us having the greatest time you can legally have on a motorcycle with some of the best people around. Don't be shy.

Tour to the French Alps 2008

    OK Folks.

Brittany Ferries have released next years Ferry Details. It's time I started putting this together.

I am looking to do an overnight crossing from Portsmouth to St Malo. The ferry leaves Portsmouth at 2030 hrs arriving St Malo 0815 local time. This will give as an opportunity for a good nights sleep before the first days serious riding and I would suggest a Cabin would be in order. St Malo also gets us that little bit further down towards the area we are heading for.

Return would probably be the Caen to Portsmouth route which is a shorter crossing and as most will live within easy travelling of Portsmouth a cabin would not be necessary ( which helps keep the cost down).

I did a quick quote on a bike with two passengers, including cabin on the outward leg and recliners on return leg, which came to £235 return. Solo Rider £190 return.

The cheapest out bound sailings are any day except Friday. Return sailings are varied but provided we avoid the Saturday & Sunday Midday and Tea Time sailings, they are reasonable. All the night time sailings are cheap, they arrive at Portsmouth at 0700.

Now in order to start getting Hotel quotes, I need to know when we are going. Ideally the last two weeks in June would be good.

What I need to know is; If you are interested (I stress interested) in going, what dates would be suitable to you.

Please let me know ASAP as I would like to do some serious work on this next week and have something to put forward to you by next weekend.
